I love eggrolls but they’re kind of a pain in the butt to make and the frozen kind just aren’t the same, and they’re expensive! I also happen to be allergic to the ingredients in many of them, boo! So, what’s an eggroll lover to do?

Enter the eggroll in a bowl, a simple (also super fast, inexpensive, & easy!) recipe that’s almost as good as the real thing.

You’ll note that I use ground sausage, it’s my favorite. Feel free to use cooked bacon, ham, shrimp, chicken, even ground beef if you want. Make this recipe work for you!

Eggroll in a Bowl, serves 8

1 lb ground sausage
1 Tbsp sesame oil (olive will work too)
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 head cabbage, shredded
1 carrot, shredded
green onion, sliced & separated
1/2 Tbsp powdered ginger (I always use wayyyy more!)
dash red pepper flakes
dash hot sauce (Optional, I prefer mine topped with Sriracha)
1/3 cup soy sauce

In a large skillet brown the sausage, remove and set aside.

To the sausage grease add the sesame oil and warm, then add the white part of the onions & garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add the cabbage and carrots. Cook until tender, about 5 minutes.

Add the cooked sausage back to the skillet. Add the ginger, pepper flakes, and soy sauce and mix well.

Serve over rice if desired and top with green part of onions.

I love eggrolls. I had to buy some from my local store and it was not the same, but it did take care of my eggroll fix. This way looks great. It is a lot of work doing your own, but this way I will be able to have them more often. Thanks.
